Court House Farm

A PLACE WITH SOUL AND STEEPED IN HISTORY

This past Autumn, I spent a lovely day with Helen Reed, owner of the romantic medieval Tudor manor, Court House Farm and Gardens. This historic property is available for self-catering holidays or to hire for an event. Your first visit won’t be your last! It is a captivating space. Here are the images from our time together.

Step back in time as you cross the threshold of this stunning property. Helen has created a magical space that welcomes you with warmth and romance, inviting you to sink in, relax and stay awhile. The moment you step foot on the grounds, you feel a sense of peace and tranquility. Helen’s vision for this place is to create a hamlet that would bring together creatives and artists for decades to come. This is only the beginning of this next chapter that makes up this ancient space.

Court House Farm is located in southwestern, England outside of Bristol, tucked away off the high street of the seaside town of Portishead. This hidden gem will not only take you by surprise but also take your breath away. Last Spring when I first visited, Helen took some time to share this lovely property with me. We wandered the gardens where she pointed out how she would design her rose and dahlias beds. Imagine my delight when I returned six months later to discover the fruit of her labor. What a incredible garden Helen has created! Not only is it a joy to wander among the flowers but for a small fee, you can cut and create your own bouquets of flowers. I love that she has vases full of flowers scattered throughout the house.

During my most recent visit, Helen and I spent a glorious hours in the early morning sunshine to clip a few flowers for me to take home to Northamptonshire. I can’t express what joy this brought me. Truly a special place and memory made.

As much as the outside tells a story, the inside gives way to another world of wonder. Each room has a story to tell. Imagine.. over 600 years of history! They have only begun to unearth the stories. Read more here.

Even better, you can stay at this magical property! The manor is perfect for a special family or friend gathering, or as a creative stay for those seeking time and space to rest, relax and be inspired. You are able to hire the manor for short stays and weekend getaways throughout the year. The property is let as a whole and includes parking as well as used of the private garden. A two night minimum is required.

The Manor interiors are a real delight with an eclectic mix of antiques and vintage pieces. The property includes five bedrooms and four bathrooms with an extra guest bedroom downstairs (on-request). There is a fully equipped kitchen stocked with all your cooking needs. If you don’t want to cook, a local chef can be hired to cook a delicious meal. Or you can walk into town and visit one of the many local restaurants.

A large dining area sits more than a dozen people. Throughout the house you’ll find several sitting rooms to retreat to when desiring a quiet space. Out front, you’ll find a lovely terrace with a long table and chairs plus a fire pit to gather on cooler evenings and perfect for al fresco dining. In the colder months, curl up by the roaring fire to read, sew or chat with friends.

The surrounding grounds include several cut-flower gardens to fill the house with blooms during your stay. The Manor is also available to hire for weddings and various functions or for photo shoots. Find more information by visiting their site.

Before I left Helen’s enchanting property, she made sure to send me home with buckets overflowing with the most gorgeous blooms. Immediately I knew I would create a still life image with these flowers. As promises, the below image is a result of that inspiration. You can purchase this print at my online shop. All profits of the image will be donated to Helen and the continued work to restore the property.
